Susan Lammers author of Programmers at Work 40th Anniversary Edition

Susan Lammers is an award-winning writer, entrepreneur, and pioneer in digital multimedia. In 1985, with Microsoft still a company of just 160 programmers, she wrote Programmers at Work, a landmark book that brought to the fore the world's first intimate portraits of the technical visionaries igniting the PC revolution.

Shortly after joining the company, Lammers was tapped to spearhead the early ventures in interactive new media, serving as head of the Consumer Multimedia Division. There she led research and development of the company's first digital encyclopedia, later named Encarta, along with a host of other groundbreaking CD-ROM titles and new media initiatives.

She went on to join the founding team of Interactive Home Systems, later known as Corbis, Bill Gates' ambitious venture to build a vast digital image archive spanning fine art, historical images, and major photo libraries made accessible through a natural language interface and displayable on large screens throughout the home. In 1993, she founded Headbone Interactive, a venture-backed children's media company that produced CD-ROM games, an internet destination, The Headbone Zone, and animated television programming.

Now, Programmers at Work: 40th Anniversary Edition returns, offering today's readers a fresh look back at the tech visionaries who launched the original PC revolution.

Lammers is a graduate of Stanford University. She lives in Seattle, Washington, with her family.
